Deadlines for this scholarship
An award closing is only the first of the dates that matter. After it there is the deposit that keeps your place, the unconditional offer the funder wants to see before it pays, and a last day to arrive and register. Where the funder publishes none of these, the row says so — a blank is what the official page actually says, not something we have left out.
No closing date published. This funder sets its closing date per country, or opens the call only when the cycle begins. Send us your documents and we will apply the moment your country’s window opens.
Who can apply
Yes - non-degree award for undergraduates/recent graduates studying Japanese, applied through the Japanese embassy/consulate-general in the country of residence; Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Gulf nationals are not excluded.
What the award is
Non-degree award for students already studying Japanese to spend about one year at a Japanese university. Applied through the Japanese embassy; the official recruitment notice runs between December of the previous year and the following February. Coverage includes a monthly stipend of about JPY 117,000 (same band the official page gives for undergraduates) plus round-trip airfare and tuition waiver. No single dated closing for the round applying now is posted, so deadline is blank. Official source: https://www.kyoto-u.ac.jp/en/education-campus/procedures/scholarships/mext (checked 29 October 2026).Where these dates came from
JASSO states "Recruitment for those arriving in Japan next October is made between December of the previous year and the following February", so the window for October 2027 arrival opens in December 2026 but no day-level closing date is published for Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia or Oman - https://www.studyinjapan.go.jp/en/smap-stopj-applications-japanese.html (checked 30 October 2026); dates and latest-arrival/enrolment columns are left blank because the funder gives months only and defers exact dates to each embassy.
Deadlines move. Always confirm on the funder's own page before you book anything — the link above is where we read it.
