National University of Ireland Maynooth (NUI Maynooth or NUIM) was founded by the Universities Act, 1997 as a constituent university of the National University of Ireland. It is Ireland's second oldest university, tracing its origins to the foundation of the Royal College of St. Patrick in 1795. The University draws inspiration from a heritage that includes over 200 years of education and is a place of lively contrasts. It is a modern institution, dynamic, rapidly-growing, research-led and engaged, yet grounded in historic academic strengths and scholarly traditions. NUI Maynooth is located in the historic town of Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland, 20 km west of Dublin. Its grounds consist of two connected campuses; an older south campus of 19th century buildings, shared with St. Patrick's College, and a modern north campus, occupying circa 100 acres. The University is internationally recognised for the quality and value of its research and scholarship and its dedication and commitment to teaching. NUI Maynooth has an international reputation for research in humanities; social and spatial sciences; mathematics, communication and computation; and human health.
